Incidents recorded so far in 2025 reflect a concerning trend seen nationwide: more serious threats to school safety which is a worry to pupils staff and parents.

Arrest after school burglary during the summer holidays

September 30: Police have made an arrest after a burglary at a Hartley Wintney primary school during the summer holidays.

These cases of school crime in Hampshire, spanning physical security breaches, serious safeguarding failures and child protection risks, highlight that both internal and external threats to site safety must be addressed.

How can schools in Hampshire improve their security measures?

Given the incidents recorded, schools in Hampshire should focus on the following:

  • School CCTV systems: High-quality, monitored cameras help deter intruders and assist police investigations. CCTV footage helped Bordon Infant School after its burglary.
  • School access control: Professional access control installers in Hampshire fit systems to meet a range of security requirements. Fob entry, intercoms and other systems protect schools
  • Safeguarding audits: Following the Perins School case, every school should revisit its safeguarding protocols, ensuring robust staff vetting and clear reporting processes.
  • Lockdown procedures: The Southampton incident shows why schools need fully rehearsed lockdown plans. Technology like remote-activated school lockdown systems and in-classroom panic buttons can reduce risk in live threat situations.
