Vodafone launches heat-detecting cameras to protect offices from Covid-19

UK based mobile telecommunications company, Vodafone has launched a heat-detecting, temperature screening camera designed to screen employees, customers and visitors.

Anyone coming into a building will be screened for signs they may be running a temperature, and potentially be infected with the Coronavirus, Covid-19.

 

Vodafone’s cameras can check the temperature of up to 100 people per minute with the images being streamed securely to a desktop computer, laptop, or smart device.

If elevated temperatures are detected, an alert is sent to the system operator of the camera to help them identify people who may have the infection.

Heathrow to carry out temperature checks on passengers

Flagship UK airport, Heathrow will begin using temperature screening cameras & thermal imaging solutions. They will carry out these checks on its passengers over the next fortnight.

This is just one of the latest developments with companies investing in temperature screening & thermal imaging camera systems.

Heathrow, the UK’s busiest airport, will be trialing these solutions, initially at Terminal 2.

Although new to the UK, temperature screening cameras & thermal imaging solutions are currently in place at many Asian airports, for example at Singapore Changi.

If the trial is successful, the temperature checking systems will be rolled out to other parts of the airport. This includes check-ins, departures, connections, and staff search areas.

John Holland-Kaye, Heathrow’s CEO, trecently told MPs on the transport select committee an agreed international standard for health screening in the aviation indusrty was paramount to restoring consumer-confidence and encouraging people to return to flying.

He said: “Aviation is the cornerstone of the UK economy, and to restart the economy, the government needs to help restart aviation. The UK has the world’s third-largest aviation sector, offering the platform for the government to take a lead in agreeing a common international standard for aviation health with our main trading partners.

Amazon using thermal cameras to detect Covid-19

US-based, internet giant Amazon has begun installing thermal cameras in its UK based warehouses and across the world to screen workers for the symptoms of coronavirus.

This news comes after Amazon has reported over 50 cases of COVID-19 across its US-based warehouses.

With the impending return to work, UK firms are looking at ways to mitigate the risk of employees and visitors bringing COVID-19 into the workplace. Social distancing is particularly difficult in factory and warehouse environments. This is why firms are looking at measures to keep their operations running in a safe, manageable way.

“We implemented daily temperature checks in our operations locations as an additional preventative measure to support the health and safety of our employees, who continue to provide a critical service in our communities,” an Amazon spokesman told BBC News.
